Fall- MAY 12th
The inspiration behind the song “Fall” was the exhilarating yet nerve-wracking experience of taking the plunge into a new relationship. It captures the moment when two people decide to take a leap of faith, despite any potential consequences. The song is sexy, fun, euphoric, and ethereal. I initially wanted to create a sound similar to Galimatias, but in the process, I discovered a unique style of my own.
At the moment, my team and I are still storyboarding our music video concepts. I have been working with a few visual artists on lyric videos. I have always been an anime fan and that fandom has led me to contract anime-style artists to create lyric videos for me. My latest anime-themed lyric video is for my song “Fall” and will be released May 12th.
Inspiration and Recording With Teamwork
I write and record most of my music on my own, but occasionally, I run into creative roadblocks and need outside inspiration to break through. With this record, I knew that I needed one more fun and upbeat, less serious song to round out the album, but I just couldn’t seem to nail it down on my own.
That’s when I reached out to another producer named Cole Johnson. We started sharing beats and progressions back and forth until he sent me a simple synth chord progression with a kick, snare, and hi-hat. It summoned some inspiration in me, and I wrote “Like a Movie” the following week. I took those simple stems and built off of them to create the fun and funky pop track that my album needed.
Later on, I contacted the guitarist in my band, Sam Larson, and had him write and record bass and guitar on the track. Ultimately, this gave it the final polish and human touch that it needed.
Overcoming Challenges
As far as promotion goes, we are in the midst of that process. Personally, I’ve never been very interested or proficient when it comes to marketing my own music. Creating music has always been a sacred part of me. I love sharing my music with people, and there is no better feeling than when they resonate with my songs. However, pushing my music onto people and trying to brand myself aesthetically has always been challenging and stressful for me.
Something about marketing myself has always given me an icky feeling and drained the inspiration and fun out of music. I know that other artists are different in this respect. Some thrive on stage, in interviews, or on camera. Some are social media geniuses. However, I am an introverted studio rat at heart. I find my joy and purpose in the late hours of the night, cycling through snare drums and oscillator settings, perfecting melodies, and lyrical concepts.
Some may say I’m lazy and lack the motivation and willpower to make it as an artist, but I’ve been doing this long enough to know that those areas of the industry are not my strong suit. Luckily, throughout my career, I have been fortunate enough to find people who believe in me and have put the right team around me to help present my music to the public in the best way possible.
Future Performances
At the moment, I am trying to piece together my live performance and everything it might entail. My team and I are also storyboarding for several music videos for the album. As for the singles, we are not quite sure which songs they will be yet. We want to release this record and allow the public to decide which songs are their favorites, and then focus on promoting those.
We have an idea of the top 2-3 songs, but ultimately, the people will decide.
